The last post

My experience learning english at university has been a Little bad. English has always been a subject that I have left quite aside, I was never very good in this subject, so I resigned myself a little and just trying to approve. The last time due to having to read many text in english in some subjects, i started to apreciate the value that knowing english has, besides considerating it like as a useful tool if i want to travel to different countries. 

I need to improve my pronunciation and generate the habit of thinking and speaking in english, because is difficult to me stop thinking in spanish, in my head i try to translate the words and not to build sentences in english, that confuses me in trying to talk.

I think i will have to strive and take more english classes, with emphasis on talking. I have to beat the shame, because i ashamed pronounce bad or build a sentences wrong, for it i never try to talk.

Outside the english class, i don’t use english much, only when i have to read texts in my clases, but never talking in english with someone or i don’t enter in websites in english. Most of the movies or series i watch have subtitles or are translated so i don’t use in this cases.

On the other hand, i have no family or friend who speaks english, so i have no one to practice in my day to day, but i would lke in a future improve and be able to have a good level of this language.

Postgraduate studies

I would like to study a Master in Archaeology and Heritage, the reason is because i would like to have more knowledge about the conservation of heritage and the laws by which this is governed. This to contribute in the conservation of heritage in Chile, which is usually deficient.

I would like to take subjects about theory, legislation and management of the Archaeological Heritage, Practices of museums, how to do didactic exhibitions, conservation and restoration of archaeological sites and archaeology in urban places.

I would like to study abroad, one of my options would be Spain, because i’ve researched a bit about it, and i think it’s a country where the subject of heritage is important and it has a great recognicion, besides having a long history with the subject.

I would like to attend a course, and go to classes in the University there, because i think is important have the opportunity to discuss topics with classmates and teachers, to contrast different point of view. I think that this can be achieved in a better way in this kind of classes.

Another one of my options would be to do a Master in Argentina, to be able to development ideas focused in Latinamerica and its heritage, besides being more comfortable option in terms of money and proximity to Chile.

My future job.

In this post, i´m going to talk about my future job.

I would like to work as an archeologist, I think it will be a job that will combine work in the lab and work digging outdoor.
I would like to travel a lot, learning about the different ways of doing archaeology and different theories. Also i would like know the different ways that the people have to related with their past.
I don´t know exactly what salary i will have, but when i finish the university i could choose a more or less good salary. Although if i have a higher academic degree, i could have a better salary.

I plan to take some major in lithic technology or in the specific study of human bones. The first because i´m interested in the processes of making of Stone tools, and the second because also i’m interested in paleopathologies and the marks that activities leave in the bones.
On the other hand, i like the metal technology and his development in the old world, so i would like to take a major on it, probably in other country, because it’s not a subject that is teach in Chile.
I would also be interested in working in the management of museum collections,

I hope i can get something like this in the future.

In this opportunity i want to talk about the Mousterian, a culture within the period of the European Middle Paleolithic. I choose this topic because i study archaeology and is fascinating to me the first developments in technology.

The Mousterian technological complex is associated with the Homo neanderthalensis, born 125,000 years ago and survived up to 40,000 years ago, or 30,000 in places like the Iberian Peninsula.

This complex consists in a lithic industry, where tools were carved in silex rocks and quartzite, the carved used the Levalois technique, a distinctive type of stone carving. They created tips, knives, scrapers and hammers.

This kind of industry is considered the “Mode 3”, because is the third oldest industry made by the genus Homo, behind Acheulan and Oldowan industries.

Its interesting to me the study of this things, like the types of Stone tools, is what gives a ligth in the understanding about the time when humans differed from the rest of the animals, in addition the mousterian is interesting because was made for our close relatives: The Neanderthals. All this could make us reflect about the great closeness that this genus had of ours, as a lithic industry such as the Mousterian is quite complex.

Changes to my study program

I study archaeology, and the program have emphasis is teach about prehistory and some especific materials, like lithics, ceramic, human bones and animals bones, and sometimes makes a class about textile. Also we have subjects of archaeological theory.

I would like change the emphasis in prehistory for one where the emphasis is also in colonial history and the especific skills that we need to study that period. In addition i would like have more class dedicated to management of museum collections and conservation of them. 

I think that the time that we have to complete the career is little, because our career is oficially "Antropology", and we have two years of common plan of study and after we chooce a mention, as archaeology. For that reason i think that the common plan should be one year, or increase the years of mention in one, because the information that we need learn is much.

In general, the faculty don't give much facilities, the faculty should give more money to go to places to learn about the different methods of excavation, to make it something applied to reality. Also this serves us to learn about use of GPS and the system of coordinates that we should use to locate sites.

On the other hand, i would like change the teaching methods because are focused on exhibition classes, which can be replaced with group work, discussions and greater freedon to choose themes that are interesting to students. Also that exams are about reflecting more than just learning data.

Summer Holidays

I dont have a plan to do in this summer holidays, but i think that i go to the beach, to Duao. In Duao my family has a house, and its a place where i go to escape to movement of the city and his problems. Maybe i go to visit my nieces in Curico, i will have time to play with they and take the biggest to eat ice cream or watch movies, because the least its a baby yet.
In January i dont know what i will do... i would get a job or see a arqueology proyects where i can participate, or do something, i would like to participate in a proyect of difussion of arqueological heritage in Maule region, because i was read something about a proyect of difussion of a ancient cemetery in Tutuquen, so i want take a chance with that.
In February i will stay in Santiago, because come a friend from Argentina, and i go all over the city with him. He know the principals places of the city, but always have time to go to new places.As well as he want to go to Formula E, that this year it is done in Santiago, no longer in Buenos Aires where he usually go to see, so i think i will go with him.
The rest of the time, probably i go with my friends to something place, to take a walk or eat trash food, like always do... or help my dad with paint the house or something like this.

The best holiday ever

The best holidays that i can remember wasn't in a great place, in fact was in a small town named Duao. Was ago one month aproximately. I went to the house who my family have in this place.
It was few days, was in a weekend .
My family came with me, my father and his girlfriend, my brother, his wife and my two nieces, one of them had only two month of born.

I went to the beach principally, but i don't swam because was very cold. only was to walk. Also went to the mountain. This because the town is very small and the sea is in front the house and the hill is behind. One of the days was raining and we play with cards and helped my niece to build a motorbike with legos. 

I considerer this like the best holidays because i really enjoy be with my family. My brother and his family live in Curico so don't see them very often, also in this holidays i meet my niece newborn. In the other hand, i enjoy go to this town so always are a great holidays go over there.

A country I'd like to visit

Japan is the first place i'd like to visit. I think that is a very fascinating country and which preserv his traditions. I know some things of the history of this country, because one of my hobbies is read "manga" (japanese comic) and many of them are about historical events.

I would like to know the tradicional castles of the feudals seniors, in addition to places where development legendary battles, like Sekigahara. Also i would like to know Tokio, and his famous district of Akihabara.

I would like go to the sintoist sanctuary of Heian, in Kyoto, which is one of the most bigest in Japan. In addition, i would like to visit in Kyoto the district of Gion, where the geishas still live until today.It would be interesting to study there, since I study archeology and this discipline has an interesting vision regarding methods in archeology. But I would not want to live there because the Japanese have a very stressful lifestyle.
